Wacker Drive has been a major roadway in the heart of Chicago’s downtown area for more than 80 years. The east-west section from Michigan Avenue to Randolph Street was redesigned and reconstructed in 2001-2002. This project lengthened the widths and clearances on the east-west section, created the space for the Chicago Riverwalk and restored the historic limestone elements to Wacker’s original appearance in the 1920s.

North-south Wacker was built in 1955 and is in need of a complete reconstruction. The current project picks up where the 2001-2002 reconstruction left off. As of 2009, approximately 60,000 vehicles traveled daily on the upper and lower levels. The second phase of Revive Wacker Drive will provide a safer, more efficient roadway for those drivers to travel and three acres of green space. For more information, visit www.wackerdrive.org.
